Googles about turn on its earlier ban on gambling advertisements has attracted the critical notice of UK’s politicians. Birmingham MP Perry Barr Khalid Mahmood has introduced an early-day motion on the subject.

For the cause of relevance
It may be recalled that Google had decided in October last year to lift the ban on gambling promotions on its AdWords Service in UK, saying that it was a bid to become more relevant in local markets.

C of E’s sentiments echoed
The Labour MP’s motion, which questioned the timing of the giant search engine’s policy change, also cited the Church of England’s concerns in the same regard.

The motion recorded concern over the ban being lifted during the period of the global economic crisis, and backed religious disquiet over its effect in normalising gambling.

Consider CSR, say MPs
The politicians called on Google to re-think the matter in the light of its corporate social responsibility.
